Unlike a cable handbrake, which relies on worn drum or caliper mechanisms and gives an inconsistent pull, a hydraulic unit acts directly on the rear circuit so the rear wheels lock immediately and predictably every time. That repeatability is what drift and rally drivers are after. The 0.75 inch bore moves a useful volume of fluid per stroke, giving firm lock-up without an excessive lever throw. Mount it solidly to the chassis or a properly braced tunnel bracket, since lever loads are high, and bleed the circuit carefully after fitting.
