The socket and nipple come as a single assembly, so building a hose means a square cut on the braid, seating it fully on the nipple and tightening the socket to swage the joint. At AN16 the 150-degree angle is close to essential for reversing a run, because hose this large has a substantial minimum bend radius and will kink long before it doubles back. Taking the turn at the fitting keeps the bore open. AN16 handles coolant and header tank plumbing, breather and vent lines and dry sump reservoir connections.
