The value of a 90 at AN12 is clearance: the hose is stiff and its bend radius is large, so turning it inside the fitting avoids a long, awkward sweep across the engine bay. Suits dry sump scavenge and pressure lines, big oil coolers, fuel pump suction and coolant plumbing. Clamp the cutter body firmly during assembly and lubricate generously.
