Motul’s Dexron II-D fluid covers the older end of the automatic transmission specification range, which is the correct fill for a great many gearboxes built through the 1980s and into the 1990s. Beyond the gearbox, Dexron II-D was widely specified for torque converters, power steering pumps and racks, and various hydraulic and hydrostatic systems, so a bottle is useful well beyond automatic cars. The 1 litre size suits top-ups and making up an exact fill without opening a larger container. As with any ATF, the friction characteristics control clutch pack engagement, so shift feel deteriorates if the wrong specification goes in. Check the vehicle’s requirement before filling, and do not substitute it where a later Dexron revision is specified.
