Motul ATF III is built to the Dexron III specification, which remains one of the most commonly called-for automatic transmission fluids in service. Inside an automatic the fluid does three jobs simultaneously: it transmits drive through the torque converter, it carries heat out to the cooler, and its friction characteristics govern how the clutch packs take up, which is what the driver feels as shift quality. It is also specified in many power steering racks and pumps and in various hydraulic circuits. The 1 litre size is right for topping up or making an exact fill. It generally supersedes earlier Dexron requirements, but do not use it where a gearbox specifically calls for Dexron VI or a proprietary factory fluid.
